Tilman Esslinger
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zürich
Tilman Esslinger is a world leading scientist in the field of quantum gases. His major scientific accomplishments include, for instance: first demonstration of subrecoil laser cooling of rubidium atoms, demonstration of the quantum phase transition between a superfluid and a Mott-insulating state, measurement of the long-range order in a Bose-Einstein condensate, pioneering work on atom lasers, first realizations of one-dimensional atomic quantum gases, pioneering work on fermionic atomic quantum gases in optical lattices, and measurement of higher-order correlations and the counting statistics of an atom laser.
Professor Esslinger has received the ERC advanced grant, 2010 and the Phillip Morris Research Prize (shared with T.W. Hänsch and I. Bloch), 2000.
