Styles in Biosciences ==================== Please be sure to read this file before using our styles for journals in the Biosciences. Here you will find notes about any limitations in a style, along with tips about how you might work around those limitations. You will also find a list of any other journals that use the styles included in this package. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition --------------------------------------- This style does not include a reference type for agency publications. To add a reference type, see "Adding & Deleting Reference Types" in the "Reference Types" chapter of the EndNote manual. This journal includes the specific pages cited in a book. Our styles do not include the specific page or pages cited for a book or edited book. Instead, EndNote includes a field for the Number of Pages for both books and edited books. American Society for Microbiology Style Manual -------------------------------------------------- This journal includes the series and film-numbers for audiovisual materials. These fields are not included in the Audiovisual Materials reference type in EndNote, but you can add them yourself. To do so, please see "Adding, Deleting & Renaming Fields" in the "Reference Types" chapter of the EndNote manual. This style does not have a reference type for agency publications. To add a reference type, see "Adding & Deleting Reference Types" in the "Reference Types" chapter. This journal includes the specific pages cited in a book. Our styles do not include the specific page or pages cited for a book or edited book. Instead, EndNote includes a field for the Number of Pages for both books and edited books. Use the ASM style for all of these journals: Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Applied and Environmental Microbiology Clinical Microbiology Reviews Infection and Immunity International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology Journal of Bacteriology Journal of Clinical Microbiology Mirobiological Reviews Analytical Biochemistry ------------------------- This journal includes the specific pages cited in a book. Our styles do not include the specific page or pages cited for a book or edited book. Instead, EndNote includes a field for the Number of Pages for both books and edited books. Annual Review of Biophysics and Biomolecular Structure ----------------------------------------------------------- If a paper delivered at a conference has been published along with other papers presented at the same conference, you should consider entering the paper as a Book Section rather than as a Conference Proceeding. That way, you will be able to include both the date and place of publication in your reference. The standard Conference Proceeding reference type in EndNote does not include fields for the year or place of publication. Biological Reviews ------------------- This journal prints the authors' names in Òsmall caps.Ó EndNote cannot convert text to small caps. See "Formatting author names in all capital letters or small caps" in the Styles chapter of the EndNote manual. This journal requires that the letter appended to the year (such as 1988a) be italicized. EndNote cannot do this. Please refer to "Italicizing the letter after the year" in the Styles chapter. Bioscience ----------- In this journal, an author's name is supposed to appear only once in the bibliography, with an em-dash for each subsequent reference. If your bibliography includes two or more works by the same author or group of authors, please see "Suppressing an author's name when a bibliography contains two or more works by the same author" in the Styles chapter of the EndNote manual. CBE Style Manual C-S ------------------------------- The CBE Style Manual includes: (1) an availability statement and the corresponding contract number for reports; (2) the availability of a thesis; (3) the area represented in a map, in addition to a physical description; (4) the editor, physical description, series statement, accompanying material, and availability statement for audiovisual material; and (5) a physical description and accompanying material for a computer program. These fields are not currently defined in EndNote, but you can add them yourself. To do so, see "Adding, Deleting & Renaming Fields" in the "Reference Types" chapter of the EndNote manual. The CBE Style Manual includes reference types for classical religious and secular literature. EndNote does not have these reference types, but you can add them yourself. See "Adding & Deleting Reference Types" in the "Reference Types" chapter of the EndNote manual. CBE Style Manual N-Y -------------------------------- The CBE Style Manual includes: (1) an availability statement and the corresponding contract number for reports; (2) the availability of a thesis; (3) the area represented in a map, in addition to a physical description; (4) the editor, physical description, series statement, accompanying material, and availability statement for audiovisual material; and (5) a physical description and accompanying material for a computer program. When two authors have the same surname, EndNote cannot distinguish between them by including their corresponding initials. Cell ---- This journal includes the specific pages cited in a book. Our styles do not include the specific page or pages cited for a book or edited book. Instead, EndNote includes a field for the Number of Pages for both books and edited books. Critical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology --------------------------------------------------------- This journal includes the specific pages cited in a book. Our styles do not include the specific page or pages cited for a book or edited book. Instead, EndNote includes a field for the Number of Pages for both books and edited books. Developmental Biology ------------------------ This journal includes the chapter cited for a book section and lists it after the volume. EndNote does not currently have a separate field for the chapter in the Book Section reference type, but you can add it yourself. To do so, please see "Adding, Deleting & Renaming Fields" in the "Reference Types" chapter of the EndNote manual. EMBO Journal -------------- EndNote cannot suppress spaces between last name and initials that follow. Your output will thus be "Smith, A.," and not "Smith,A," as required by the EMBO Journal. European Biophysics Journal ------------------------------ This journal requires that an author name be listed only once in a citation. If you need to create a multiple citation with more than one reference to the same author, please see "Showing an author's name only once in a multiple citation" in the Styles chapter of your EndNote manual. Journal of Cellular Biochemistry --------------------------------- If an author has published more than one reference in a given year, this journal specifies that the first reference include the year without a letter, but all subsequent references in the same year receive letters ÒaÓ through ÒzÓ. EndNote will append a letter to each year of publication, including the first year. Journal of Clinical Investigation --------------------------------- This style does not have a reference type for abstracts. To add a reference type, please see "Adding & Deleting Reference Types" in the "Reference Types" chapter of the EndNote manual. Journal of Experimental Biology --------------------------------- This journal prints the authors' names in small caps. EndNote cannot convert text to small caps. See "Formatting author names in all capital letters or small caps" in the Styles chapter of the EndNote manual. EndNote cannot suppress the comma after "et al." in the in-text citations for this style. Journal of Leukocyte Biology ------------------------------ This journal includes the specific pages cited in a book. Our styles do not include the specific page or pages cited for a book or edited book. Instead, EndNote includes a field for the Number of Pages for both books and edited books. Journal of Membrane Biology ------------------------------- This journal requires that the letter appended to the year (such as 1988a) be italicized. EndNote cannot do this. Please refer to "Italicizing the letter after the year" in the "Reference Types" chapter. Life Sciences -------------- This journal requires that the letter appended to the year (such as 1988a) be italicized. EndNote cannot do this. Please refer to "Italicizing the letter after the year" in the "Reference Types" chapter. Molecular and Cellular Biology -------------------------------- If a paper delivered at a conference has been published along with other papers presented at the same conference, you should consider entering the paper as a Book Section rather than as a Conference Proceeding. That way, you will be able to include both the date and place of publication in your reference. The standard Conference Proceeding reference type in EndNote does not include fields for the year or place of publication. Mutation Research -------------------- This journal requires that an author name be listed only once in a citation. If you need to create a multiple citation with more than one reference to the same author, please see "Showing an author's name only once in a multiple citation" in the Styles chapter of your EndNote manual. Nature Structural Biology ------------------------ This journal omits the words 'Press', 'Verlag', and so forth from the publisher name, except when it is necessary to distinguish between universities and university presses. EndNote will include the publisher name exactly as it is entered into the reference in the EndNote library. This journal requires that references with a letter as part of the volume number list the letter in plain text with the volume number bold. EndNote will make both the letter and the volume number bold if both were entered into the Volume field. EndNote always puts a comma before an author's title (e.g. Jr. or Sr.). This journal normally has the author's title follow the name - without a comma. Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology ----------------------------------------------- This journal prints the authors' names in small caps. EndNote cannot convert text to small caps.
