Ê EndNote 3.0 March 1998 Manual Installation of the EndNote Add-in & Plug-In Module The EndNote Installer automatically looks for the default location to install the EndNote Add-in for Microsoft Word 6 and 98, and the EndNote Plug-In Module for Word 5. If the EndNote Installer is unable to find the default location for the installation of the any of these modules, it will leave them in the Microsoft Word Add-in folder in the EndNote folder. You may then install the Add-in or Plug-In Module manually as described below. Before you begin, be sure to quit from Microsoft Word. Default Install Locations If you need to install the EndNote Add-in for Word 6 or 98 manually, simply copy them from the Microsoft Word Add-in folder in your EndNote folder into the appropriate location (described below). ¥ Microsoft Word 6 By default, Add-ins for Microsoft Word 6 belong in the Word Startup Folder (6) in the Preferences folder of your System Folder. This is the only place EndNote will attempt to install the Word 6 Add-in: System Folder:Preferences:Word Startup Folder (6):EndNote Add-in If you have reconfigured your Word installation, you can copy the Add-in into the folder that you have designated to be your startup folder. To verify which folder Word considers to be its startup folder: 1. Start Microsoft Word 6. 2. Choose Options from the Tools menu. 3. Select the File Locations tab. 4. Look at the "Startup" line to see the path for the designated startup folder. 5. If the Startup line is blank (shows no path) or if you would like to reset the startup folder location, select the Startup line, click Modify, select the desired folder, and save your changes. 6. Quit from Word, make sure the Add-in is in the correct location and then start Word again. The EndNote Add-in commands should appear in Word's Tools menu. ¥ Microsoft Word 98 By default, Add-ins for Microsoft Word 98 belong in the Word folder of the Microsoft Office "Startup" folder. This is the only place EndNote will attempt to install the Word 98 Add-in: Microsoft Office 98:Office:Startup:Word If you have reconfigured your Word installation, you can copy the Add-in into the folder that you have designated to be your startup folder. To verify which folder Word considers to be its startup folder: 1. Start Microsoft Word 98. 2. Choose Preferences from the Tools menu. 3. Select the File Locations tab. 4. Look at the "Startup" line to see the path for the designated startup folder. 5. The EndNote Add-in commands should appear in Word's Tools menu. ¥ Microsoft Word 5 The default location for Plug-In Modules for Microsoft Word 5 is the Word Commands folder in the Microsoft Word folder. The Word Commands folder must be in the same location as the Microsoft Word application (not simply in any folder named Microsoft Word). Microsoft Word folder:Word Commands:EndNote Module 3.0 If you do not have a Word Commands folder in the same folder as Microsoft Word, you can either create one, or copy the EndNote Module directly into the same folder as the Microsoft Word application.
