Mikko Paalanen graduated from the Low Temperature Laboratory in 1977, then worked as a research scientist at ATT Bell Labs in New Jersey, USA for 15 years. There he specialized in investigations of the conductivity of mesoscopic samples. In 1992 he joined the university of Jyväskylä establishing new research in nanotechnology.
Mikko Paalanen will support all the present research activities in the Low Temperature Laboratory. Research focused on superfluid helium and cooperative phenomena in nuclear magnetism will continue at its present level. Nanotechnology, vigorously pursued by Prof. Paalanen, will be added to the current fields of interest.
This development is entirely in accordance with the recommandations made by the Finnish Academy evaluation group earlier this year.
