objectives:
Landau-Zener (LZ) tunneling can occur with a certain probability when crossing energy levels of a quantum two-level system are swept across the minimum energy separation. Such a quantum interference effect in solid-state was observed recently by M. Sillanpää et al (Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 187002, 2006). LZ-interference can also be used for state detection in a Cooper-pair box, i.e. a charge qubit. In this project, we will investigate, how LZ-interference can be optimized for the use of non-demolition detection of quantum information.
