The theory of full counting statistics contains essentially all aspects of the electron transfer process in mesoscopic circuits. It has so far been developed for low frequencies. In this project, our objective is to generalize the theory for arbitrary frequencies, and describe the effects of quantum-mechanical ordening of current operators.
Wolfgang Belzig visited the LTL before the ULTI conference in Lammi, where he was a speaker. In TKK, he gave a colloquium on full counting statistics of electron transport to a wide physics audience. During his visit, we discussed the possibilities of extending the concept of full counting statistics to finite frequencies. One such generalization arises from studying the transition rates caused by an external fluctuations in a quantum system - these depend on the frequency dependence of the fluctuations and thereby on the frequency dependent counting statistics. Related to this work, we have later published and submitted the papers T. T. Heikkilä and T. Ojanen, Phys. Rev. B 75, 035335 (2007) and M. Vanevic, Yu. V. Nazarov and W. Belzig, [cond-mat/0701282].
